Kanye’s name is a variation of the name “Kanye West”, which he adopted from his mother’s family name. His mother, Donda West, was a college professor, who was of African American descent and from the Beauregaard Parish in Louisiana. He explained that his given name was too hard to pronounce, so he changed it to Kanye, which was more accessible and better suited him.
