Ben Askren has struggled since joining the UFC due to his lack of experience in MMA at the highest level. A wrestler by trade, Askren made his UFC debut against Robbie Lawler in which he was knocked out early in the fight. Since then, he has had difficulty defending against more experienced opponents. Additionally, he hasn’t been able to get consistent wins due to his lack of striking and takedown defense. His last fight against Jorge Masvidal was a perfect example of Askren’s weaknesses being exploited by those who are more experienced in the sport.
