The length of UFC fights is determined by the weight class involved. Bouts that involve any of the heavier weight classes (over 147 lbs.) are 5 rounds, while all other bouts including those at the Featherweight (145 lbs.) and Bantamweight (135 lbs.) classes are 3 rounds. The 5 round fights are generally higher-profile fights, usually for championship belts, and as such require a longer time for competitors to prove their worth.
