In the weeks leading up to a UFC fight, the fighters undergo a drastic weight cutting process. This process involves intense dieting and tough training routines. These rigorous routines can include restricting calories and cutting carbs, reducing salt and sugar intake, increased water intake and/or restriction or avoidance of food or drink items high in sodium and/or carbohydrate content. Fighters also commonly use saunas and sweat suits to help sweat out body weight and water weight, as well as making heavy use of diuretics to flush excess water and shed pounds rapidly.
