Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) and boxing are two forms of combat sports that involve physical contact and striking. Both sports have been the subject of debate when it comes to the damage they can do to the brain. Studies have shown that both sports can cause brain damage, with MMA being particularly linked to repetitive Concussion, one of the leading causes of brain damage. While MMA fighters typically wear gloves and protective gear, they are often still susceptible to head trauma which can lead to long-term brain damage. Boxing, on the other hand, can cause serious blunt force trauma, as the heavy gloves used can lead to more severe physical damage. It is also argued that numerous head shots over time can add-up to more damage from boxing than from MMA. Ultimately, both sports can cause serious brain damage and participants should use appropriate protective gear and undergo regular health checks to monitor their brain health.
